About

I am an independent researcher studying the Northern Snakehead fish in Maryland.  2016 was the first year research was conducted.

This site will help to inform angler's and community members about this non native fish in Maryland and more specifically Howard County.

Project

My specific aims for the Northern Snakehead fish are to measure migration, food habits, growth, behavior, confirm with photos or net offspring of a school within the Little Patuxent River and Middle Patuxent River areas and to educate the public of Howard County.

Donate

I am self-funded and unaffiliated with any institutions at this time, until choosing a master's program.  I would appreciate any private donations of needed field and laboratory equipment.  I will also be selling my Northern Snakehead logo as a sticker for $1.00 USD.

Get Involved

I plan to have monthly fishing gatherings, in the Howard County area, to meet new anglers interesting in learning more about this unique invasive fish.

I have a number of presentations planned in the Howard County area, free admittance, that will give more inclusive information.

About Me

My name is April and I am a transplant from Texas. I received my bachelor’s degree in biology, 2008, from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. I have spent almost 10 years in the zoo and aquarium field observing animal behavior and learning husbandry skills.  I became interested in the Northern Snakehead fish nearly four years ago. I am self-funded and unaffiliated with any institutions at this time. I plan to apply for a PhD in the Biology or Ecology field in 2019.

I believe that by promoting the education of this fish to fellow anglers and community members, we can encourage catch and release as well as responsible harvesting.  I am advocating for this fish to not only become a game fish but table fare.

If you would like for me to speak at your gathering about the Northern Snakehead Fish Please let me know!  There is no charge and presentations would be free and open to the public. I can speak in 30 or 60 minute intervals about their biology, behavior, and current research being done on this amazing fish. Please contact me for further details!
